It’s NOT about guns.

It’s about mental health awareness and collective consciousness. It takes a village. Nobody is blameless. We need to learn how to catch people when they fall; better yet, learn how to help prevent people from falling in the first place. Nobody has valid reasons for committing heinous acts against humanity, and I deeply feel that these atrocities can be prevented by better understanding the root cause.

It’s time we start asking ‘why’ rather than stopping at just ‘how.’ To be clear, I am an advocate for stricter gun control legislation, but that’s not the point of this post. Gun control would absolutely reduce these occurrences. Although to neglect the conversation of mental health after the fact is ignoring the big picture, and that’s why I feel that it’s ‘not about guns.’ Guns are simply the accessory to a bigger problem.

It’s troubling that so few are trying to understand what leads to twisting up the minds of young adults who then fixate on an idea that leads them to hurt people.
